Boys Youth Volleyball League

In September, Epic hosts an 8-week Boys Youth Volleyball League for boys in 3rd – 8th grade. Epic offers two different leagues: League A for boys in 3rd – 5th grade, and League B for boys in 6th – 8th grade.

The league begins with Registration and an Evaluation on Aug 29th and 30th. The League then runs for 8 weeks, ending with a league championship. The purpose of the Boys Youth Volleyball league is to provide an introductory program for boys to start their volleyball career.

Teams consist of 8-9 players. Teams practice once a week for an hour and half and play matches once a week on Friday for an hour. This program has no weekend commitment.

Boys 8th grade and below Non-Traveling Program

In January, Epic offers a Non-Traveling (Local) volleyball program for boys 8th grade & below of all experience levels. There is no minimum age, but boys in this program will typically range from 5th to 8th grade. The program starts in the beginning of January and runs through the first week of May.

Practices are once a week, on Fridays, in a group setting based on grade level. Five times during the season, Epic teams are formed and these teams participate in one-day local tournaments.

President’s Week and Spring Break: Because the various school districts have different weeks off for their breaks, practices continue as usual during these times.

Boys 12 and under Traveling Teams

In January, Epic forms traveling teams for boys 12 & Under (6th grade & below) that compete in the Southern California region. There is no minimum age, but boys in this program will typically be in 6th grade or below.

The age definitions, as established by USA Volleyball (the National Governing Body of Volleyball in the US), can be seen here: Age Definitions for Junior Volleyball.

Teams normally have 10 or 11 players. The number of teams that Epic fields is determined by the number of participants who wish to play on 12 & Under traveling teams. No prior experience with competitive volleyball is necessary.

Tryouts are held the beginning of January and the season runs through early June. Teams practice 8 times per month. Practices last for two hours. During the season, the teams attend 5 points tournaments, organized by the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA), which take place in Los Angeles and Orange County. Teams in this program will not attend any of the SCVA multi-day tournaments.

Boys 14 and Under Traveling Teams

In September and again in November (after the completion of the youth boys volleyball league), Epic forms traveling teams for boys 14 & Under that compete in the Southern California region. There is no minimum age, but boys in this program will typically be in Middle School.

Teams normally have 10 or 11 players. The number of teams that Epic fields is determined by the number of participants who wish to play on 14 & Under traveling teams. No prior experience with competitive volleyball is necessary.

Tryouts are held the beginning of September for our 14s Elite team and then again at the beginning of November for our 14s Travel teams and the season runs through mid-June. Teams practice 8 times per month. Practices last for two hours. During the season, the teams attend numerous points tournaments (generally on Saturdays), organized by the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA), which typically take place in Anaheim. Teams will also participate the Boys Holiday Classic (in December), the Boys Qualifier (in January) and the Junior Boys Classic (in June).

Teams in this program are not scheduled to play in the Junior National Tournament. Teams that qualify for or choose to attend the Junior National Tournament can do so at an additional cost.

Boys High School Non-Traveling Teams

In September, Epic forms Non-Traveling (Local) teams for boys in high school of all experience levels. There are two age groups: 9th-10th grade and 11th-12th grade. Teams in this program compete in local tournaments in their respective age groups. This is a great program for high school boys to get started with volleyball.

The season runs from September through Early December. Teams normally have 10 or 11 players. Teams practice 8 times per month. Practices last for two hours. During the season, the teams attend 5 one-day local tournaments on Saturday or Sunday.

Thanksgiving: These teams will not practice during the week of Thanksgiving.

Boys High School Traveling Teams

In September, Epic forms traveling teams that will compete in the Southern California region. The number of teams that Epic fields is determined by the number of participants who wish to play on traveling teams.

Teams start practices in September at the conclusion of tryouts. Teams take a break at the end of January (for the HS Season) and then start up again in May and compete through June.

Teams consist of 11 to 12 players. Teams typically practice 8 times per month. Practices last for 2 to 2 1/2 hours. During the season, the teams attend all points tournaments, organized by the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA), which take place in Orange County. They will also participate in the 2-day Holiday Classic in December, 3 day Boys Qualifier in January and the 3 day Boys Classic in June. Elite teams will also compete in the Boys Junior National Tournament held the 1st week of July.

18s-17s, seniors and juniors
16s-15s, sophomores and freshmen
