Charlie, a local of San Diego, was raised in Mira Mesa until his family moved to Poway when he was in 8th grade. Charlie's first experience with volleyball came when he tried out for his 8th grade team. Although he did not make the team, he got hooked right away and began playing club the next year.

Due to a broken arm, Charlie did not play in High School until making JV his sophomore year. He then went on to be the setter and captain of Poway High School's Varsity team the next two years. During his senior year, Charlie led Poway in winning the prestigious Mira Costa Tournament, where he was named MVP. Shortly after, Poway won the San Diego CIF championship defeating Mira Mesa.

Charlie then went on to earn a spot as a walk-on with the UCLA men's volleyball team. After one redshirt year, Charlie began to travel as a defensive specialist and back-up setter. He was a member of three National Championship teams with UCLA in 1995, 1996 and 1998. Charlie and the Bruins were just two points shy of winning four straight titles when they lost to Stanford in 1997. While at UCLA, he met his wife Michelle, who he married in 2000.

Charlie moved back to Poway after completing his Bachelor in Mathematics and is currently teaching math at Poway High School. He and Michelle have three sons, Hayden, Preston, and Landon.

This year will be Charlie's 15th year coaching volleyball at Poway High, his 12th as Varsity Boys coach.

Charlie will be leading the Youth Boys Development this year. He remembers trying out for the first time and wished there was some easy way to gain a little experience before doing so. So he is back now to give that opportunity to all the boys out there eager to make the jump into the exciting world of volleyball.
